Where to begin?? This is just a sneak peek of all the goodness to come from the wedding I got to shoot this weekend in part with my friends Taryn and Shelby, who are rapidly becoming a huge hit in the wedding / boudoir arena via Joielala. Taryn booked this wedding last year and from the first meeting with Lauren and Colin we both knew it was going to be a special one. How can you top a wedding ceremony in the middle of the forest just below Mammoth Mountain at the foot of a beautiful little lake? Then when Shelby volunteered to come along and be a third lens on the team it was clear we were going to produce a truck load of good photographs and fun.

Lets just say the wedding was amazing, the reception was hilarious, and the music performed by Collin and friends after the reception was hands down the icing on the already tasty wedding cake. Oh and we made some new friends. Rachel of I do Weddings was the wedding coordinator and was so on top of if and a pleasure to work with I had to give her and her boyfriend Mike a tip of the cap. You guys were awesome! If anyone is reading this please look into them they were amazing.

Lauren and Collin thank you so much for having us. I know on behalf of myself, Taryn, and Shelby we all equally loved the weekend Can’t wait to show you more of the images soon.

Coronado Scenic Photographs

I didn’t really have anything fun to blog about today. Because I just returned home from Convict Lake in Mammoth where Taryn, myself, and Shelby shot an amazing wedding, I haven’t had a chance to retouch any images for a sneak peek. So I’ll share a few of my latest travel images of Coronado.

Big Kai

Kimberly’s childhood friend Lisa and her husband Jeff just had a baby boy. Well I shouldn’t say just……the kid is almost walking and talking, so he’s not quite a new born. Another reminder that time flies faster every day. I should have started off by saying, in my time reference Jeff and Lisa just had a baby, but in real time it was a year and a half ago. Moving on- the point is that I got together with them the other day to do some family photos and capture a day in young Kai’s life for memory’s sake before I wake up tomorrow and he’s driving a car and moving away to college.

It’s pretty interesting watching kids do what they do. He’s actually a really mellow little guy and does plenty of smiling, laughing and clapping. But when it came time to play on the rocks he wasn’t to happy about getting his little hands dirty. Lisa told me, “oh ya, he doesn’t like dirty stuff or getting his hands dirty”. Ha ha, ok that’s good I guess. I think most little boys spend a majority of the day picking up rocks from the ground and sampling them on their young palette’s for as long as they can before Mom comes running over to say yuckie!! It was fun watching the young family do their thing and I happily accepted many words of wisdom from them both. My favorite was make sure you go on a good vacation once more before you make the plunge. Got it, firmly burned into my notes to self file.

Congrats Jeff and Lisa you guys are a beautiful family!

Sneak Peek Annie & Chris Long Beach, CA

Here’s a little sneak peek from Annie & Chris’ wedding in Long Beach this weekend. All I’m going to say is I can not wait to see the video!! Chris’ dance off’s were all time. Oh ya and the wedding was awesome too, really heart felt and down to the heart of things. An amazing group of friends and family. Taryn and I had an awesome time with you guys. Hope you’re enjoying the honeymoon. More to come soon……..

Mabuno Continued

I shot another piece of the Mabuno project yesterday with Ryan Maher at the quaint residence of Mr. Jordan Percey and his Mrs. the tallented Jackie. (Sorry I don’t know your last name Jackie….). They live in a really cool old 1930′s building here in Encinitas and have crafted every square inch of the place into an eclectic mix of serious style and design. Here’s a few sneak peeks of some of the detail. The rest of the architectural shots will be done soon.

I got to bring my assistant along on this one.

Classic Brides

Scratching The Surface Campaign 2

I got to team up with my good friends Matt Beauchesne and Brendan Raasch last weekend to shoot the second ad campaign for Julian Wilson’s upcoming film “Scratching The Surface”. We shot everything underwater and had an absolute blast doing so. I have sooooo many new ideas now for shoots I would like to do while submerged. More to come on that in the near future. We didn’t have a huge budget to work with on this, just a cool idea and the help of friends. So I learned really quickly that having scuba gear and oxygen would make life a whole lot easier in the future. But I did really improve my breath holding stamina under water, so that’s a plus. Special thanks to Brendan’s parents for allowing us to use their pool. Also huge thank you’s to Bart Wilson for collecting all the guys boards and helping out all day. And another giant thank you to my friend Rich Clark for coming along to help out and give me great ideas as we went along. Such a fun day, I can’t wait for campaign #3!! Also if you’re interested in shooting anything underwater. I rented the camera housing and appropriate gear through the fine people at Borrow Lenses. They’ve linked up with Aquatech to offer housings to the world which is an awesome outlet to have available. Aquatech was super helpful and had all the tips and tricks I needed to accomplish the shoot. Thanks guys!

Kristen & Joe Get Married + Sneak Peek

This is a sneak peek from the wedding Taryn and I shot last weekend in San Diego. Kristen and Joe booked me about a year and a half before their wedding date which isn’t that unusual, but what was unusual was how much fun I’ve had with them since the day we booked. The first image you’ll see below of Kristen is a perfect representation of her. Bubbling over with smiles, enthusiasm, and character. We just so happen to share a mutual friend named Jericho, who is nothing short of hilarious herself, so when it came time to book their engagement low and behold Jericho was our fourth partner in crime and I think we all ended up having more fun drinking beer and laughing at one another than we did shooting actual photographs. Since that day last summer every time Kristen and Joe came to town for wedding planning and fun with Jericho I was graciously invited along for the madness and more good times were had.

So when it came down to the day of needless to say I felt an overwhelming personal touch on this one. I’m always trying to tune into what my Brides and Grooms are feeling and thinking to capture it all, and sometimes you can’t help but get caught up in the day yourself to live a bit of the emotion and magic that’s floating around the air. I think that’s why I enjoy shooting weddings so much. You really get to first hand be a part of someones special day, and it can be very rewarding to hand them over those emotions a few weeks later when they see the photos for the first time.

I’ve been photographing scenic images all over San Diego for the past few months with my friend Rich. We were hired by a travel website company to help launch their new site with a bang and San Diego happened to be their first destination. It’s been a fun process going around to my neighboring cities searching for unique angles that showcase the beauty and history of San Diego. It has also been extremely challenging with the weather over the past few months, but all in all I’m having a great time re-exploring the city I’ve called home for 13 years now. It’s kind of strange what you’ll realize you’ve been missing right under your nose when you take the time to look for it. I had no idea of some of the most amazing places even existed within San Diego’s city limits. These images are part of the Balboa Park project.

Skyler & Kristen Engagement Encinitas, CA

My good friends Skyler and Kristen recently were engaged and plan to be married next summer here in San Diego. Which I kind of feel like some times creates an awkward situation. Do you ask your friend to shoot your wedding vs. being involved as just a friend to celebrate. Do you not even like your friends photography and don’t want them to find out the hard way? Do you not want to get involved on a business level at such a monumental event? Lot’s of questions to be asked when pondering that type of thing. The honest truth is that I’m relieved to say I won’t be shooting Skyler and Kristen’s wedding. Kimberly and I plan on drinking lots of champagne, and tearing up the dance floor with the rest of our closest friends on that day. Luckily for me they both felt that having us as guests to share their big day was the right thing to do. Oh, and Skyler absolutely hates my photography too……..awkward

I did however offer to shoot their engagement photographs at no charge as kind of a congratulations I love you guys gift to get them going on their marry way. We’ve been waiting and waiting for a little sun shine in dreary San Diego for it seems like months now and finally decided to pull the trigger and go for it last week. Lucky for me they were in on all of my crazy ideas of shooting a super vintage 1800′s inspired session as well as some fun shots at the Del Mar fairgrounds. Congrats again on your engagement Skyler and Kristen, Kim and I love you guys and your little monster Zoey. Looking forward to the big party next weekend!!

Sneak Peek Beth & Ralph’s Wedding + La Jolla, California

Taryn and I photographed another beautiful wedding this weekend before winter headed back into Southern California in July……..Random. Beth and Ralph live and love in beautiful Colorado but Beth’s family resides here in San Diego. So when we first met to discuss their wedding it was all about fun creative ways to capture the beautiful backdrops and gorgeous ocean scenery of La Jolla. The event was to take place at the newly renovated and absolutely stunning Scripp’s Seaside Forum positioned on the cliff above the La Jolla Shores. Anyone living in Southern California knows it has been nothing short of a gray summer. May gray followed by June gloom, and now into a severely depressed July graaaaay. So as a photographer hoping to get beautiful sunset glittering ocean scenes this Saturday I was really thinking I needed a new game plan. Then out of nowhere Beth and Ralph’s luck changed the game and the entire summer when the sun peaked out and stayed out well into the evening. Thank you Mother Earth and the powers that be. Saturday, July 3rd was a beautiful day and wrapped its self around a beautiful wedding. Here’s a little sneak peek of the action……..
