Every morning we wake up and laugh at our dog Sophie who is always reluctant to get out of bed in the morning. She’ll just burrow her head in under the covers and keep sleeping until she hears enough noise from the kitchen to know it’s probably almost time for her morning stroll through Encinitas. We do pretty much the same walk every morning. Head down her favorite strip of grass to sniff and pee on. Go past the coffee Lady Linda’s coffee cart where on some mornings Sophie’s two twin Scotty Dog friends and their owner Bill sit and chat. This is where she first becomes really hyper active for the day because if Bill happens to be there not only does she get to play with her buddies, but Bill always has a pocket full of treats. Even when Bill isn’t there she always has to stop to sniff his usual spot. Then it’s on through downtown and to our final destination, the cliff overlooking D Street and the endless blue Pacific Ocean. It’s there we survey the day’s possibilities and of course the waves. I rarely find the time to get in the ocean any more these days but it’s nice to have a look and imagine for a few minutes. After a few moments to ponder it’s back home and in front of the computer. Sophie finds her way in to the office after a sniff at the food bowl and curls up on the guest bed to watch a day of blogging, retouching, client relations and so on. I’m hoping she’ll take over the business for me soon.
